aa return

following a hiatus of almost six years, we're back. everything is still quite unclear, but these are the facts:

- we are now four people in aa: emily, iina, jere and roy.
- more people may join later, once we get things sorted out as a little group first
- we are currently looking for a drummer, this is important! if you know someone who understands free jazz but can also appreciate keeping time, please contact us via facebook (link below)
- we are currently planning some new cd-r releases. i bought a silk screen but i haven't used it yet.

- we are playing live at Myymälä 2 in Helsinki on Saturday 15th february. bring your valentine from the previous night.

new things

athletic arms is no longer active, but we gave it a good blow out at the last show that was cut quite short.. perhaps the fact that it only lasted twenty-five minutes gave it that extra something.

anyway, no longer playing in aa doesn't mean that the individual members of the group have given away their instruments; some links to a smattering of different projects that are active, or becoming active, are listed below.

rainroom (guitarist jere and his doombient group)
horse and hounds (a whole lot of people from aa + some new people too. please note that while the name of the group references this blog, the band does not play any of the songs we used to perform as athletic arms)
anustik and pakokauhu (two different solo-projects of drummer tuukka)

generic bulletin

aa will be disbanding on the 16th march, but there are still two chances to see them live before that;

- tonight, 12.3 @ om'pu in the kallio district of Helsinki....... an acoustic show plus aa DJs. SHOWTIME IS AT 9 PM, FREE ENTRY.

- saturday 15.3 @ liberté, Helsinki, with navigations, mesmer and malous mal. tickets 6 euro.........

...both shows will include full string sections, horns and masking tape.

Moi kaverit. Jos huhumylly ei viime viikkoina ole päässyt pyörähtämään käyntiin, niin kerrottakoon nyt teille kaikille että Athletic Arms siirtyy telakalle tämän viikon jälkeen. Soitamme täällä Helsingissä kaksi viimeistä keikkaamme ja toivottavasti mahdollisimman moni teistä kykenee kynnelle. HUOM! Sekä puhallin- että jousisektiot ovat viimeisten keikkojen kunniaksi koolla, joten villiä tusinaa katsomaan joka iikka!

for anyone that cares, we didn't want it to end like this but it had to. there are plans of making available all our previous work as a zipped package of mp3-files. the idea i suppose would be that we encourage anyone that downloads them to share them with their friends and ask their friends to share them too and so on. you get the idea. more on this at a later date.

NEW RECORD + INDEFINITE HIATUS

NEW RECORD
there will be a cd-r record available to people coming to the TVO show on 22nd february, one that we recorded together with Navigations last weekend.. The record will feature both our groups playing improv, athletic arms and navigations songs and one very special sabbath-influenced piece we composed together using an ouija-board.

INDEFINITE HIATUS
i'll be the first to admit we've always had our share of problems and clashes of personalities in our group, but it seems to be time for us to take a break from the whole thing. and time to take a break from the endless routine of only ever seeing your friends with an instrument attached.. i'm not fully aware of how these things are meant to be done, or how you're supposed to interact in what is loosely known as "a band".

not that we didn't take this seriously, because we really did. and there really is nothing i personally detest more than these people that get together in a room and get high and play space-rock or fucking bongos for three hours.

but ultimately not knowing how to be in a band seems to have condemned us to just that. i keep hearing all these great suggestions on how to keep a group together and steer things toward productivity; like how we should all get together and listen to music and cook together rather than just play, and get inspired by what we hear to create something of our own.. how important it is to silently communicate with others.. how you should probably rehearse less than twice a week, every week apart from christmas, for the last three or four years.

but it seems all this is now a bit late. some of us have been playing these songs for six years, and for six years it could have been really cool. but it turns out it wasn't meant to be.

we will still play the remaining shows we have announced, but everything that happens after that is quite unclear. if you haven't seen us live before, please come to one of the following 3 shows, it may be your last chance.

22nd 2 2008, TVO, Turku with Navigations. four euros.
12th 3 2008, Om'pu, Helsinki. acoustic set.
15th 3 2008, Liberté, Helsinki with Mesmer, Navigations & Malousmal.

corpse-masks, we haven't gone death metal yet.

FIRST, some announcements:

1. the acoustic show at om'pu scheduled for january 16th has been postponed 'til the 13th of march 2008...

2. volume four in the cd-r series is on it's way, and it was recorded live in a forest. a possible title at the moment is "The Hiphop Vintage Mokrokirka All-Song", with a sleeve featuring photographs taken on black and white film, using a flash in the dark pan.

näin viime yönä unta että minä, jere ja roy oltiin perustamassa strippibaaria silja serenaden 19. kerrokseen. meille kerrottiin puhelimessa että se on tosi hieno paikka ja pienellä remontilla saadaan siitä maailman hienoin baari, mutta kun mentiin sinne niin se oli kuin pommin jäljiltä ja täynnä narkkareita jotka hyökkäs meidän kimppuun. jee
